International Women's Day
Updated: Jun 2, 2020
Today is Women's Day. Yet not a day to celebrate but a day to keep fighting for women’s rights. We need to be thankful to all the women who fought in the past to achieve gender equality. Thanks to their achievements, many of us, the lucky ones who live in democratic countries, enjoy today rights that past generations could not dream of.
However, in the 21st century, there is still not a single country in the world that has achieved gender equality. And yet women are half per cent of the population!
Today is also a day to remember that feminism is about gender equality, it is about justice, it is about same rights for men than for women. The Chilean writer, Isabel Allende, used to say that “every woman of average intelligence should be a feminist” and I would add that every single man, too. Making gender equality a reality and therefore, living in a more just world is important not only for women, but also for men. Let’s work together in achieving this needed change for all of us!
